Sarah
Bookstore Director
As the former director of operations and finance at Main Street Arts, the nonprofit arts organization that own Sulfur Books, Sarah has been involved with the bookstore since the beginning—the renovation of the Explore! The Bookstore space, tackling various administrative tasks for the store, becoming the manager in September of 2020, and in 2025 re-imagining and moving the store to its current location at 2 West Main Street in Clifton Springs.
In mid-2022, Sarah stepped away from the bookstore to focus on her role at Main Street Arts. During that time she came to realize that she missed being surrounded by the possibility of books and the community of book lovers at the bookstore. In 2023, the opportunity came for Sarah to start managing Sulfur Books again, leaving her role at Main Street Arts as she moved fully into the role of bookstore manager/director.
Sarah has a background in graphic design which includes an associate degree from Monroe Community College and bachelor’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She also holds a master’s degree in professional studies in the business of art and design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She worked as a graphic designer for 12 years before joining Main Street Arts in January of 2017 and has been manager of Sulfur Books full-time since July 2023.
Jade
Bookseller
Jade has been a bookseller at Sulfur Books since the end of 2020. It all began when she was in town with her family to look at a house in Clifton Springs. After touring the house, she and her family explored Main Street, and she was very excited to find out there was a bookstore in town. She bought the first of many books she would end up acquiring from Sulfur Books that day, a copy of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Sulfur Books just happened to be about to hire a bookseller around when her family bought the house, and the rest was history.
Jade has a love for historical horror, gothic classics, dreamlike narratives, and books that explore rage and womanhood, but she tries to read a little bit of everything. She has two cats, a black cat named Ophelia and a tabby named Tofu. She spends her free time reading, watching horror movies, and hanging out with her cats.
